U's boss Paul Lambert cut a frustrated figure after the game on Saturday as he saw his side fall to a second successive home defeat.

After the highs of the win over Carlisle last time out in the league, it was another disappointing day for the U's in front of their own supporters against Walsall.

And, speaking to BBC Essex after the game, he said: "We dominated possession but that's no good, you have to get in on goal, and you have to have an end product in your game.

"We knew they would come to sit in and go from there, but you have got to get the goals that game requires and we didn't manage to do that again.

"We had lots of endeavour and plenty of possession but we went too narrow, and we didn't get it wide on as many occasions as we would have liked.

"You have to pick yourself up and go again in the following game."
