U's Flash: Dickson Signs

26 July 2013

Left back joins the U's ahead of new season.

Colchester United are delighted to announce the signing of left back Ryan Dickson on a free transfer.

Ryan has signed for the U's after impressing during pre-season, having been released from Premier League Southampton at the end of last season.

Having signed a one year deal, the 26-year-old will slot into the U's vacant left back spot and can't wait to get going in Colchester colours.

He said: "It's good to be settled now and I've been happy since I first turned up here. There's a good squad here, the right philosophy in the way to play and a great work rate from all of the lads.

"The style of play is a good one to be involved in, the style suits me as a player and I've fitted in really well with the lads.

"Last year was a frustrating one for me, so I am ready to get back to my top form and help Colchester push on, because I think we've got a good chance with some real talented players here."

Ryan started his career with home town club Plymouth Argyle, before going out on loan to Torquay and Brentford.

Griffin Park was his next destination, where he played 87 times over two years, before switching to Southampton in the summer of 2010.

He helped the Saints to promotion from League One in 2011 and, whilst with the south coast club, has enjoyed loan spells with Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient and Bradford City.
