The U’s hopes of a vital three points were quashed on Tuesday night, as Fleetwood grabbed a second half equaliser to take a share of the spoils.

It looked like the U’s were on course for that important win, before the visitors drew level in the second half.

The two teams then traded chances in the last quarter of the game, with Alex Gilbey denied at the death by a fine Chris Maxwell save.

With the U’s unchanged for the third game running, the match started quietly, as both sides felt each other out.

In fact, it was not until the fifteenth minute as Proctor bought down the ball well for Fleetwood, but lifted his volley well over the bar.

As the half wore on, though, the U’s slowly got into their stride and Sordell was an influence for the U’s down the left hand side.

But it was from a more central position that the home side took the lead seven minutes before half time.

Gilbey seized on a loose ball in midfield, drove forward and drilled a shot into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Maxwell.

The U’s finished the half confidently, and then went into the second half looking to extend their lead.

Moncur forced a save out of Maxwell, before Gilbey dragged wide, before the visitors drew level on the hour mark.

The goal came from the player responsible for the mistake for Gilbey’s goal, with Jonsson lashing home as the ball made its way across the U’s area.

But the home side were not to be cowed. Whilst they were never in top gear, they had the better of the territory as the game entered its final quarter.

Porter forced a save out of Maxwell with his feet, before Moncur pulled a shot wide. With seventeen minutes to go, substitute Drey Wright then pulled a shot inches wide with the keeper beaten.

However, then the Cod Army came to the fore in the final ten minutes.

Substitute Haughton was the danger man, curling one effort inches wide, firing another just over and setting up Sarcevic, who fluffed his lines from a central position.

With those chances spurned, Gilbey forced a great save out of Maxwell after juggling the ball into a good position, before Wright had a shout for a penalty at the death.

And yet it wasn’t quite enough for the U’s, who had to make do with a draw.
